Jamaica Appeal Update
To grow it we now all have to SHARE it
“DAMN I’M GOOD”
That’s the jaunty expression on a bus in Westgreen Crescent, my family’s neighborhood. It’s a feature, a fixture. What a great thing for a bus to say.
I made a video for our fundraiser (below: please watch and share!), from some footage that my cousin Owen sent me. Owen and I had a long chat with Treena on Saturday.
An actual genius incredible filmmaker told me to make some more (thank you John!) so I’m going to do it.
The “Gone, babygirl, gone” in the video is about the mango tree that before the hurricane wrapped Mommy’s entire house like it was an elvish palace. Mango Lothlorien I call it. It was full of tree frogs that sang like angels all night.
It’s spoken by Floyd, Treena’s friend. Treena gave him her car when she left. Floyd always parked and cleaned and maintained and kept safe that car when Treena would teach in her little school.
The richness and power of Floyd’s voice says everything about the power and charm of Jamaican people.
I’m posting this update because, DAMN WE’RE GOOD. This appeal, I mean. Thanks to an incredible wonderful anonymous donor we have blown through our latest goal of $16,000 and we are now going for $20,000!
Thank you everyone from the bottom of my heart. I don’t think I’d be able to live through this without trying to help with all my might.
We have been buying MORE SOLAR GENERATORS. We’re now aiming for SIX. Look how lovely they are.
And we’ve been getting some Steripens. These little wands kill all the bacteria and single-celled organisms in water.
We have sent more SATELLITE DISHES for satellite phone capabilities, and we are investigating SOLAR COOKERS. And we’re looking at COMPOSTING TOILETS.
Stuff is getting to Montego Bay with surprising speed. We’re able to send things fast because of your incredibly generous support.
Soon we’re going to show you the Survival Pack in its complete form: generator, power supply, satellite link, cooker, toilet, sterilizing wand.
So friends...we’re at this point where SHARING this appeal is paramount. I’m doing everything I can at my end. Since I uploaded it at about 4pm yesterday, our video has received over 1500 hits, which is very pleasing. If just one in a hundred of those people decide to donate, then ... you do the math (it’s never been my strong suit!). Anyway, the point is, to get to the NEW GOAL we need to be telling everyone about this appeal.
I think the video speaks for itself in explaining very graphically why this is important.
