Major Appeal Update
C'mon everybody!
There are NINETY-NINE of us and it seems only right to notice this out loud! There’s ninety-nine of us and we’ve exceeded our first goal of $12,000!
Treena and I are using some of your lovely donations to buy solar-powered generators! So far we’ve purchased two of them and one of them appears to be shipping! Montego Bay port opened up yesterday, so cross fingers!
Things such as cars and fridges and generators can cost TWICE as much in Jamaica as they do in the USA or the Europe. I learned this when I first visited. I was stunned by the bill at the supermarket checkout! This is a little known fact. Jamaicans make less money in real terms than Americans, and they’re faced with far higher prices.
And right now Jamaicans need a lot of extra help! Yesterday evening Treena and I got a call from my brother-in-law, “little brother” Richard (he’s big) and our niece Zarie (six). They were calling in the dark, and the phone went dead! Yes that’s right, there’s still no power.
And no water. Still no water. It’s hard to describe how degrading and gross and dispiriting this is unless you’ve experienced it for yourself.
I want to end this with a shout-out to Floris and Sue (both donors! Sue was the first!) who both suggested, at the same time, that I start this fundraiser. I’m so grateful to you both for showing me the way here.
So keep SHARING and perhaps even donating a little more, everyone! I’m relying on you as I’m almost totally absent from social media!
Let’s get past one hundred!
